Gaelforce West is the largest one-day adventure race of its kind in the world. It is a multi-sport adventure race involving cycling, running and kayaking. The course of approximately 65km stretches from the stunning Glassilaun beach, south-west of Killary Harbour to Westport with some significant obstacles to cross, including Killary Fjord itself and the famous holy mountain of Croagh Patrick.

Croagh Patrick Pilgrimage – Reek Sunday

Located six miles west of Westport, Croagh Patrick is one of Mayo’s most famous landmarks. The mountain overlooks Clew Bay and the entire Western coastline. In 441AD, Saint Patrick is said to have spent 40 days and nights praying and fasting on its slopes. Over 60,000 people make the ascent on this day, starting at Murrisk Abbey.
